The Classics

This is a new feature on this site that I decided to add when I began getting complaints for referencing movies that I thought everyone had seen. I realize that most people my age, people in high school and college that is, have never really been exposed to the classics.

We all grow up hearing how important it is to read all the classic books but no one ever stresses how important and enlightening the great works of film can be. Film, in many ways, is the most essentially American form of art and has undoubtedly affected as many lives in its short existence as have the great works of literature. If you value art at all and humanity for that matter, it's vital to familiarize yourself with the great works of film.

In my articles here, I will give each of these classic films a fresh viewing and then write a little about what the movie is all about, why it is great and how it has influenced movies and American culture. Think of it as one of those Complete Idiot's Guides to Classic Movies. I hope these articles will help inspire others to take an interest in classic film the way I was once inspired years ago.
